Knight . . . Warrior . . . Doctor . . . Detective . . . Master of the Hunt!
He is eternal, but so are his foes. Through countless lives and eras, The Adept has fought the powers of Darkness. Now, as psychiatrist Adam Sinclair, he leads his loyal Hunstmen against supernatural evil in all all its myriad forms.
But the Darkness is striking back—in the guise of an unholy cult long thought to be extinct. Endowed with the elemental energy of an ancient Druidic artifact and forbidden Nazi black magic, the Lodge of the Lynx stands ready to unleash destruction on Sinclair, his allies, and, ultimately, all of Scotland.
The game is afoot for the Adept and his Hunt ... but this time, their enemies are also hunting them!
THE GATHERING STORM!
A low growl of thunder rolled hollowly across the lawn, accompanied by a more defined crackle of lightning within the roiling clouds. The brief flare picked out two more figures in battledress uniform as they hurried out onto the grass from the shadows of the building, eyes turned skyward under uniform berets.
“Oi! Archie! D’ye see that?” one of them yelled. “Where did all these clouds come from?”
Before Archie could venture a response, an eye-searing bolt of bright-white lightning ripped the sky above the castle roof, accompanied by a deafening crack of thunder. The lightning bolt struck the north turret of the great square tower with the force of a mortar round, hurling stones and roof slates up and outward in a blazing fountain of destruction . . .

5/15/12The publisher contacted me through my review on another site and made available a clean Kindle version of both this e-book and the sequel. My complaint has been resolved, and I am very satisfied with how this was handled. I've given the book the five star rating I think the narrative deserves. I appreciate it when responsiblity is taken and reasonable recompense made.

I read this book in paperback more than once. When I wanted to read it again I discovered that my copy was gone. Well, let's see if it's available for Kindle. I was so surprised and delighted to find that it was; I could get it and start reading it right away!
I'm rather wishing I hadn't, now. Random punctuation marks. Frequent typos. Text that skips half a line, then drops down. NONE of these things were in the paperback edition. I'm so disgusted at how one of my favorite novels has been mangled. The authors should be outraged. The publisher should be outraged and demand a cleaned up, updated copy be made available. Unless the publisher is responsible for this edition being so bad, in which case they should be ashamed, and should make available a cleaned up copy.

The AdeptBook Two The Lodge of the Lynx eBook Katherine Kurtz Deborah Turner Harris Reviews
I enjoyed the book immensely but was frequently put off by the misspellings, inept punctuation marks, word fragments and overall lack of editing quality of this fine manuscript. I have encountered this phenomenon before in editions of books and continue to be flabbergasted at the lack of quality in issuing books in the format. Who's in charge here? The abysmal editing interferred with my enjoyment of the book and made me (somewhat) regret purchasing the edition. Katherine Kurtz and Deborah Turner Harris would be appalled at how the editing staff mangled their fine narrative. But putting that aside, The Adept is an excellent book worthy of your money--just spent it on a hard copy rather than a edition!
Katherine Kurtz and Deborah Harris continue the Adept series. Great stories, good historical references, and a totally believable plot. There is supernatural activity, but a note to the religious folks... you'll find that it doesn't conflict with any religious beliefs. In fact it's pretty ecumenical in it's embrace of the Light as good vs. evil. I had these in paper back and have been purchasing them for the as my paper copies are sadly deteriorating.
I wish the last two books in this series were available on .... I had to finish this iteration of the series on paper instead of my beloved .
The Adept series of books are well written as a story allowing a personal look into the characters as well as a "plot" to what the characters are trying to achieve. The research the writers did was extensive as they look at the possibilities that "may be" truth based on historical knowledge and questions that have been posed over time - both from history and an esoteric point of view. It opens your mind to what may really be real and not what we are told is real. The rituals and incantations are also true to form of the belief system that they are portraying. Being in the field of esoteric and natural studies I am always hesitant to read these types of books because of what I consider to be an inaccurate story/information. The books all start out slow so I suggest you stick with them as the story line does pick up pace. There are some typographical and grammar errors but don't let that get you hung up.I purchased both the kindle and paperback versions(not all are on kindle). If you are into esoteric studies of any sort I highly recommend this series of books.
The kindle version of this wonderful book is FILLED with typos. If they fixed them like they said then they have done a very poor job for a second time.
The only reason I bought it was so I could start the series as I already have the other books.
I gave it 4 stars when this kindle version deserves 2 max because this story and author deserve the rating.
Do not buy this ebook. The print series is great--loved it, five stars--but the conversion from the print book is so riddled with errors that it is impossible to read with any comfort. This is not just occasional typos. This is bad line breaks, misplaced quote marks, garbled words--MULTIPLE errors on EVERY screen. I mean MULTIPLE; I mean EVERY. No exaggeration. The errors are such that if you haven't read the original, there are places where the conversion wouldn't make any sense. I've never seen such a garbage ebook. A true disservice to the authors and their fans.
I bought the edition and read it using the app on my Android phone, FWIW. There are numerous misplaced punctuation marks throughout the text, possibly incorrectly displayed formatting, possibly just errors, but they can be distracting. The story is interesting but neither brilliant nor ground breaking. Think of Dr. Strange blended with a Doc Savage adventure. Some of the action did not feel realistic and some of the situations were predictable after a while, a few too many "These are not the droids you are looking for" moments where the plot got moved on through the persuasive power of the main character for no real reason. Perhaps in Britian people are less contrary and more agreeable that I am accustomed to.
I do not expect to read any of the sequels but I don't consider the first book a waste of time either.
The story was ok, but the editing was horrible. There were so many typographical and punctuation errors that it was distracting from the story. Some of them were almost funny, like referring to the Frasers as the Erasers, but mostly they were just annoying. I wonder if this was self-published. I can't imagine a "real" publisher letting something like this go to press.
